CASE NUMBER 2002-10754
Giatorri’s Restaurant recently received a verbal offer from the Star News Corporation to come into their restaurant and do a ‘puff piece,’for the front page of their food magazine. The family agreed to allow a news team led by local newscaster Mr. Smith into the restaurant. The Giaotorris conducted business, while the team was allowed access to the entire restaurant. When the magazine came out, the front page featured the restaurant, but instead of a ‘puff piece,’ the news team wrote a derogatory piece on how the kitchen had a bug infestation. The Giatorri Family is suing Smith for an amount of $500,000 dollars for loss of business and property and fraud, and in supplement to this amount up to $2 million dollars for emotional distress to be decided by the jury.
